Project Coordinator



Jason Gallo (2007 - Present)
Jason Gallo is the Project Coordinator for the Web Use Project, and was a graduate research assistant from 2004-2006. He is a Ph.D. candidate in the Media, Technology, and Society Program at Northwestern University. His academic interests include the history of technology, the rhetoric of technological change, computer-mediated-communication, and surveillance.

Lab Manager



Heather Young (2007 - Present)
Heather has been with the Web Use Project since Spring, 2007 and was promoted to Lab Manager in December, 2007. She is a senior majoring in Radio/Television/Film and minoring in Business Institutions. Her academic interests lie in media research, especially for the non-profit sector.

Research Associates



Éva Bognár (2007 - Present)
Eva is a phd student at the Eotvos Lorand University of Sciences in Budapest. Also, she is working as a researcher at the international research project "CIVICWEB" at the Center for Media and Communication Studies, Central European University in Budapest.



Daniel Hantman (2007 - Present)
Daniel Hantman is a research associate at the Web Use Project. Conducting research for the Youth Digital Media Use Survey Project, Daniel collects and archives information addressing youth digital media use. These data will provide the foundation for a report to the MacArthur Foundation making recommendations on survey methodologies for the future study of youth digital media use.

Graduate Students



Dan Li (2005 - Present)
Dan Li is a Ph.D student in the Media, Technology, and Society Program at Northwestern University. Her research interests include dynamics of collaborative knowledge development, virtual communities, and blogs.



Gina Walejko (2005 - Present)
Gina is the lead graduate research assistant on the MacArthur-funded Adolescents' Internet Uses project. She uses mixed methods to research how diverse populations of individuals use new media, including how college students use the Web.



Soo Jeong An (2006 - Present)
Soo Jeong An is a doctoral student in the Media, Technology, & Society program in the Department of Communication Studies at Northwestern. She researches topics such as the Internet and online socio-cultural interaction, social networking sites, blogs, mobile phones, and identity management and formation.



Chris Karr (2006 - Present)
Chris Karr is a Ph.D. student in the Media, Technology, and Society program. His primary research interest is ubiquitous computing, with a focus on designing and creating more humane interfaces for daily life. He is also an open-source software developer and regularly writes code for a variety of projects.



Lindsay Fullerton (2007 - Present)
Lindsay Fullerton is a Ph.D. student in the Media, Technology, and Society Program at Northwestern University. Her academic interests include user-generated content and attitude formations about new media.



Kristin Thomas (2007 - Present)
Kristin Thomas is a Ph.D. student in the Media, Technology, and Society Program in the School of Communication at Northwestern University. Her academic interests include the creation of digital culture, identity formation via social networking, and the educational, social, and policy implications of the digital divide, particularly with regard to college students.



Ericka Menchen Trevino (2007 - Present)
She is a PhD Student in the School of Communication at Northwestern University in the Media Technology and Society program. Her research interests include the social aspects of information seeking on the web, the history of new communication technologies, and information visualization.



David Huffaker (2007 - Present)
David Huffaker is a PhD Candidate in the Media, Technology and Society program. His research focuses on language use, identity presentation and social structure in online communities. His dissertation examines the mechanisms that play a role in diffusion in online communities, with a particular focus on leadership.

Vanessa Pineda (2005 - Present)
Vanessa Pineda is a senior and has been with the Web Use Project for three years now initially starting as a FARA Fellow (2005-2006) and then continuing on with the team for the following two years.



Jessica Diamond (2007 - Present)
Jessica Diamond is a Junior majoring in English and Communication Studies; she plans to continue onto law school upon graduating from Northwestern in 2009.

Ashley Ayarza (2007 - Present)
Ashley Ayarza is a junior majoring in Radio/TV/Film and Art History. Her academic interests are digital media production and contemporary art theory.

Ashley Hudson is a freshman majoring in Journalism and Pre-med; she plans to attend medical school after graduating from Northwestern in 2011.

Kati is a sophomore majoring in Comparative Literary Studies and Science in Human Culture, with a minor in Spanish.
